Kendrick Perkins trying to pronounce Moses Moody’s name was a struggle (Video)
ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins went through an adventure when announcing the Golden State Warriors draft pick Moses Moody.
The day of the 2021 NBA Draft was an eventful one. The Los Angeles Lakers traded for Washington Wizards guard Russell Westbrook prior to the draft, and the Detroit Pistons used the first overall pick to select Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham. But let’s just say that ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins had a forgettable moment during the first round of the event.
With the 14th overall pick in the draft, the Golden State Warriors selected Arkansas guard Moses Moody. As Perkins went to talk about Moody, he went through a journey trying to pronounce his name correctly.
Warriors uses 14th-overall pick to select Arkansas guard Moses Moody
Perkins’ colleagues at the NBA Draft had fun at his expense. Even the official Twitter account of Arkansas Razorbacks basketball sent out a helpful tweet to the former NBA big man.
The Warriors had two first-round picks at their disposal on Thursday night, with many expecting them to use said selections to make a slam-dunk move for either a prospect or a difference-making veteran. That was not the case, as the Warriors stood pat to select G League Ignite forward Jonathan Kuminga with the seventh overall selection and Moody with the 14th pick.
Moody spent one season at Arkansas, where the team made it all the way to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. Through 32 regular-season games, Moody averaged 16.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from 3-point range.
Now, Moody gets to join a Warriors team to play alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green to begin his NBA career. What a solid landing spot for the rookie.
