Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt prediction and odds for Wednesday, February 8 (Back Vandy as home underdogs)
Tennessee avoided squandering a late lead to Auburn at home over the weekend, winning a 46-43 rock fight, which would’ve been their second loss in a row after losing to Florida last week.
The Vols are back on the road to face Vanderbilt for the second time this season. The Commodores lost in Knoxville 77-68 last month, but are fresh off a home win against Ole Miss. They are catching double digits at Memorial Gym on Wednesday night, can they keep it to single digits once again?

Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt prediction and pick
Tennessee has the best defense in the country, but Vandy put up a strong showing against it back on January 10th. The Dores didn’t shoot it well from three, 22%, but got inside the paint and to the free throw line a ton. Vandy shot 51% on two-point tries while also converting 18-of-20 free throw attempts. Further, the team turned it over only eight times.
If Vanderbilt is going to break into the mid-to-high 60’s again I like their chances to cover the big spread at home. Jerry Stackhouse’s group is reliant on off-ball action that opens up driving lanes late in the shot clock. The team has the longest average offensive possession length, per KenPom, and their top SEC ball protection group means that possessions will come at a premium.
On the other side, Tennessee is coming back to Earth after a hot start to league play from deep, shooting 31% from three and the team is outside the top 200 in turnover rate.
While the Vols are the better team for sure, this is too many points to lay on the road in a conference game. I’ll grab Vandy, who is suited to crack this seemingly impenetrable defense.
