Ryan Garcia (21-0) Will Defend his WBC Interim Lightweight Title and Mandatory status against fellow WBC mandatory and top 10 lightweight Dominican Republic’s Javier Fortuna (36-2) on July 9. Ryan Garcia vs Javier Fortuna will be broadcasted globally on DAZN and will be promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

Garcia was mandatory to WBC Champion Devin Haney but both camps have requested to postpone that fight so they can build it up and have full crowds. As a result, Devin Haney will defend against Jorge Linares on May 29 and the WBC subsequently ordered Ryan Garcia to fight the other mandatory challenger to Devin Haney Javier Fortuna. Purse Bids were set for April 16.

Ryan Garcia vs Javier Fortuna will take place at a venue yet to be determined but likely to be where maximum crowds can be achieved. Garcia was in negotiations to do an exhibition with Manny Pacquiao in the middle east and a big PPV fight with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davies in the USA on Showtime but none have come to fruition.

Ryan Garcia vs Javier Fortuna: Another Learning Opportunity

Ryan Garcia Comes Off The Floor To Brutally Knock Out Luke Campbell

Ryan Garcia had a distinguished amateur career with a 215-15 record in the unpaid ranks that included being a 15-time national champion. Like many fighters, he turned pro very young: 17 in Mexico and got easy learning fights to develop into a more professional style and get his ‘man strength’.

Garcia is notorious for his mass following on social media which has contributed to his commercial importance as well as build a young, different fan base. He became famous due to his sensational hand speed and big frame which has proved very useful in his pro career to date knocking out 18 of 21 opponents.

Ryan ‘KingRY’ Garcia is coming off a career-best win when he overcame the ‘acid test’ in January. He got off the floor to brutally stop top 10 lightweight: Britain’s Luke Campbell (20-2) with a brutal body shot in the seventh round. As a result of this win, he placed himself into the exciting lightweight mix and set up mega fights with the likes of Lopez, Davies and Haney.

Javier Fortuna Stops Antonio Lozado To Set Up Major Fight With Ryan Garcia

But first, Ryan Garcia must come through the top 10 lightweight Javier Fortuna. Fortuna formerly held the ‘Interim’ WBA World title at Featherweight as well as the WBA World title at 130-pounds. He has also formerly challenged for the IBF Lightweight title against Robert Easter Jr in 2018 losing via a tight split-decision.

Fortuna has proven time and again that he is an elite fighter and relishes a challenge at the highest level. Since his narrow defeat to Easter Jr, Fortuna has been awaiting a big fight and now he finally gets one against the ‘Golden Boy’ Ryan Garcia. Garcia has been matched well in his career so far and Fortuna is another example of the right fight at the right time but can KingRY deliver on the hype?
